SFP and SFP+interfaces are different interface types, and although they are very similar in appearance and size, their performance and usage are different.

The SFP+(Enhanced Small Form factor Pluggable) interface is an enhanced small pluggable Optical module that supports a transmission rate of up to 10 Gbps. It is usually used for high-speed interconnection of 10 Gigabit Ethernet network equipment, optical fiber communication equipment and data centers.

1. Application, advantages and disadvantages of SFP+electrical port module

The interface of SFP+electrical interface module is consistent with that of SFP+optical module and SFP+high-speed cable. Compared with the SFP+Optical module, the transmission distance of the SFP+electrical interface is shorter. At present, the transmission distance of most SFP+electrical interfaces is 30m. However, because the electrical interface is interconnected with the network cable, the construction cost of the SFP+electrical interface is lower. Compared to SFP+high-speed cables, SFP+electrical ports have longer transmission distances, more convenient wiring, and more flexible system construction.

SFP+ RJ45

A typical SFP+port module can support 6 speeds, namely 10M, 100M, 1000M, 2.5G, 5G, and 10G. The transmission distance varies with the type of network cable used in different rate environments.Use for Transceiver ,Switch, Router, Network Card, Server, Firewall, Storage Device.

  • The link distance between devices in most data centers is between 10m and 100m. The use of 10G SFP+electrical port Optical module can make up for the lack of SFP+high-speed cable transmission distance.
  • 10G SFP+electrical port Optical module adopts RJ45 interface, which is used together with CAT6 or CAT7 network cables. The cost of copper cable wiring is lower than that of optical cable wiring.
  • 10G SFP+electrical port Optical module can be directly used in the existing copper cabling system to achieve 10G transmission, while using SFP+Optical module requires optical cable cabling, which will increase deployment costs. If you want to use SFP+Optical module in the existing copper cabling system, you need to add Ethernet switches or optical converters and other devices.

3.How to pay attention when purchasing a 10G electrical module?

  • There is a choice between multi rate or single rate. There are 10G rate electrical port modules that support multiple rates (1-10Gb/s) or only single rates (10Gb/s).
  • The operating temperature range is different. There are commercial and industrial grade 10G electrical port modules, with a working temperature range of 0-70 ℃ for commercial grade and -45-80 ℃ for industrial grade.
